IAIS elects offshore supervisor head
Friday 14 January 2011 - by Nicola York
The International Association of Insurance Supervisors has elected the Financial Services Commission of Gibraltar's head of insurance supervision Michael Oliver to its executive committee.
Oliver will represent the Offshore Group of Insurance Supervisors which speaks on behalf of financial centres.
He has been at the FSC for just over two years and is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
FSC chief executive Marcus Killick says: "The appointment to such an important standard setting body is a testimony to Michael's standing in the insurance regulatory community and is very important to us and Gibraltar as it further demonstrates our long standing commitment to contribute towards the establishment and improvement of international regulatory standards.
"For a specialist finance centre such as Gibraltar it is also important that they have a voice in the setting of those standards so they reflect the needs and objectives of the smaller as well as the larger finance centres."
