Coalition concerns

Erixon adds: “The political divisions over financial regulations can follow other broad structures of domestic politics rather than the merits of regulatory proposals themselves. Take for instance the Swedish and Danish governments, they are coalition governments, and they are singing from the same hymn sheets, as far as regulations are concerned.â€
Centre for European Reform Philip Whyte says he does not believe there is much difference between coalition governments or single-party governments trying to pass financial regulatory reform.
He says: “In the run-up to the election the Conservatives and Lib Dems had fairly similar policies to go together. They were both certainly more gung ho than Labour were towards changes in the city.
“I think that differences in country, rather than differences in parties is the main thing that affects the success of coalition governments passing regulatory reforms.â€
