British MP in online row with HSBC

British parliamentarian Tom Watson got into a scrap with HSBC on Thursday on Twitter, threatening to leave the bank unless it sorted out his "problem".

At lunchtime the MP, famed for haranguing Rupert Murdoch and his empire, vowed to switch from the global giant after two decades as a customer unless it took action over an undisclosed issue.

"Well @Hsbc after 20 years together we're nearly at that point. I'm going to leave you. Unless you sort out my problem today. No excuses," he blasted.

The ultimatum seems to have paid off handsomely, as just a couple of hours later the self-confessed busy dad and disorganised politician, had been satisfactorily serviced by the bank.

"Credit where it is due. It took five calls but @HSBC sorted my problem, with nine minutes to spare. Here's to the next 20 years."


Lobbyists and regulators take note. Twitter is the place to hard-ball a bank deal.
